The factory soft touch coating on the three temperature control knobs breaks down with heat, sunlight, and time, and what was once a pleasant rubberized grip turns into a tacky, gray mess that leaves residue on your fingertips every single time you reach for the climate controls. It is one of the most common complaints on these platforms, and it is one of the few interior faults that gets worse every month you ignore it.
Cleaning does not fix it. Alcohol, degreaser, and adhesive remover will strip the gum off for a little while, but the coating underneath is already failing, and within a few weeks you are right back where you started with a knob that now looks worse than before you touched it. The only permanent answer is to stop trying to save the original knob and put a new one in its place.
That is what this kit does. You get all three temperature control knobs in a clean black finish, ready to install. How many knobs are included?
Three. This kit covers the temperature and climate control knobs only. If your two smaller audio and radio knobs have also gone sticky, our five piece kit covers all five at once.
Why did my original knobs get sticky in the first place?
The factory knobs use a soft touch rubberized coating that degrades over time from heat, UV exposure, and contact with skin oils. As it breaks down it becomes tacky and starts transferring onto your hands. It is a known wear issue across these model years and it is not something you did wrong.
Do I need any special tools to install these?
