MANTECSKIDPLATE Mantec Alloy Skid Plate, Defender 90 110 130

The Mantec skid plate, part number MANTECSKIDPLATE, is the original underbody guard from Mantec, built for the classic Land Rover Defender 90, 110 and 130 from 1983 to 2015. It is an alloy blade fitted to a steel frame, and that combination is the reason people kept asking for this plate after it went away.

The construction is the whole argument. The steel frame carries the load and takes the mounting, and the alloy blade gives you the coverage without hanging unnecessary weight off the nose of the Rover. A guard heavy enough to feel is a guard you notice every day. A guard light enough to flex is not really a guard. Mantec worked out where that line sits a long time ago, and this is the plate that came out of it.

What it does is simple. It mounts under the front of the Rover and puts a layer of material between your Defender and whatever the ground has waiting, whether that is a rocky climb, a rutted green lane, or a job site with more debris than pavement. It fits every classic Defender regardless of body style, so a 90 and a 130 are equally at home with one.

There is a second thing owners tend to mention, which is how it looks. A Defender with a proper guard under the nose reads as a Rover that gets used rather than one that gets parked. Function first, but the stance does not hurt.
