Tom Wood's TWDC-P38F Front Double Cardan Shaft RR P38A
Once a Range Rover P38A is lifted, the front driveshaft has to run at a steeper angle than the factory design intended. The result is often vibration that builds with speed, a clunk through the driveline, and faster wear on the universal joints. The Tom Wood's TWDC-P38F front double cardan driveshaft is built for lifted P38A Rovers, giving you a smoother, stronger connection between the transfer case and the front differential.
A double cardan shaft pairs two universal joints at one end, joined by a centering yoke with a greaseable center ball. Splitting the operating angle between two joints lets each one work through a gentler angle than a single joint could manage on its own. Tom Wood's generally recommends staying with a conventional two joint shaft on a Rover with no lift, and moving to a double cardan design as lift height approaches 76mm (3 in). For builds that go well beyond that, Tom Wood's also offers a multiple double cardan shaft with a double cardan at each end.
Every Tom Wood's Land Rover shaft uses Gold Seal 1310 series universal joints. The 1310 series is the most widely used universal joint in the world, found in countless Ford, GM, Jeep, and Dodge applications, and it is very close in size and strength to the factory Land Rover universal joint. If a joint ever needs replacing, you can find one at nearly any driveline shop or parts counter.
Because the front shaft runs close to exhaust heat, regular greasing of the center ball and joints is recommended for a long service life.

[FAQ]
Will this driveshaft fit my Range Rover P38A?
The TWDC-P38F is built for the front driveline of the Range Rover P38A (1995 to 2002) with the 4.0 or 4.6 liter Rover V8. Because each shaft is made to order, it is built to the flange to flange length you provide.
Do I need a double cardan shaft if my Rover is lifted?
If your Rover has no lift, a conventional two joint shaft is usually the best choice. As lift height approaches 76mm (3 in), the steeper driveline angle makes a double cardan design the better option for reducing vibration and joint wear.
What information do I need to provide when ordering?
Each shaft is built to order, so a flange to flange measurement is required. Enter it in the notes at checkout. Your order will not ship until we receive it.
