LR049990BFK Brass Thermostat Outlet Connector Kit
The thermostat water outlet connection is one of those small joints that quietly does a very large job. This brass connector kit, LR049990BFK, is an upgraded replacement for the thermostat outlet fitting built into the water pump assembly, Land Rover part LR097165, on supercharged AJ126 3.0 liter V6 and AJ133 5.0 liter V8 Rovers. The factory connection point in that pump assembly uses a plastic barb, and this kit replaces it with a machined brass fitting, giving you the barb, the sealing O ring, and the retainer clip in one package so the coolant joint goes back together properly and holds up better over time.
The barb in this kit is machined from brass, which holds its shape under the heat and pressure cycling that a running cooling system produces, unlike the original plastic fitting it upgrades. The O ring seals the fitting into the housing, and the plastic retainer locks it in place so it cannot back out under system pressure. All three pieces are included, so there is no hunting for a separate seal or clip once the old fitting is out.
This is a serviceable joint, which means most of the work is access rather than difficulty. With the cooling system depressurized and drained to the correct level, the retainer releases, the old fitting comes out, and the new brass barb seats with a fresh O ring. Lubricate the O ring with clean coolant before installation, seat the fitting fully, confirm the retainer has locked, then refill and bleed the system per the factory procedure and check for leaks at operating temperature.

Do I need to drain the whole cooling system to install it?
