SMN500040 Rear Brake Caliper Guide Pin Kit for LR3 LR4 Range Rover

The SMN500040 is the rear brake caliper guide pin kit for the Discovery 3 LR3, the Discovery 4 LR4, the Range Rover L322 and the Range Rover Sport L320. It is supplied by Allmakes 4x4 and built to the Land Rover SMN500040 specification.

The rear caliper floats on two guide pins, and it only brakes evenly if it can slide freely on them. Once the pins corrode or the rubber boots split, the caliper hangs up. The inner pad then wears faster than the outer, the rear brakes drag, and everything back there runs hot. Replacing the pins and boots puts the caliper back on free movement.

This is a cheap part that is well worth doing any time the rear pads come off. A seized guide pin will chew through a fresh set of pads in a few thousand miles, and by then you are paying for the pads twice.
